Source of “gratuitous” energy has been created in Russia

The new device, called the Vortex Thermosiphon Cooler (VTSO), was presented in Technopolis “Himgrad”, the city of Kazan. VTSO converts heat of industrial waste water into useful electrical energy.

The invention is already patented, similar devices are not used anywhere in the world.

Heat of industrial waste water, such as waste water of municipal treatment plant, recycling water of power plants, nuclear power plants, as well as natural reservoirs, serve as a source of energy to VTSO. The operation principle of VTSO is quite simple: the device extracts heat from water through a highly efficient film evaporation process. The film evaporation occurs by applying a thin layer of evaporated fluid on the evaporator wall, which creates huge evaporation area and provides high efficiency of heat removal process. VTSO has a simple design: submerged evaporators connected to the capacitors are mounted on a rotating wheel with a generator. The vaporized working fluid circulates within the sealed circuit of VTSO and requires minimum maintenance.

VTSO has wide scope of application that includes housing and utilities, wastewater treatment plants, power generation, petrochemical, metallurgy, etc. According to experts, the use of VTSO can reduce the cost of electricity consumption by two to three times.VTSO has the depths of cooling 8-15 degrees which is same as cooling tower but it is much cheaper: 1.4 million rubles per 1 MW of installed capacity. Moreover, the vortex cooler could be repaid in 5 years term, thanks to its possibility of power generation.

Currently, developers of VTSO, “Tatneftekhiminvest-holding” JCS, SIA Kinematics Go LTD and the Union of the utilities of the Tatarstan Republic, are planning mass production of the new device and its implementation at the enterprises of Tatarstan. It is expected that the new plant will significantly reduce costs for businesses.
